    <title>Aust Curric: Civics and Cit released. Consultation open.</title>

    <description>&lt;p&gt;The ACARA &lt;a href=&quot;http://consultation.australiancurriculum.edu.au/Static/docs/HSS/Draft%20Years%203%20-%2010%20Australian%20Curriculum%20-%20Civics%20and%20Citizenship%20-%20May%202013.pdf&quot;&gt;draft Years 3&amp;ndash;10 Australian Curriculum: Civics and Citizenship&lt;/a&gt; is open for public consultation from 6 May to 19 July 2013. VCTA will undertake consultation with members during this period. This member input will inform the formal response VCTA makes to ACARA.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The draft ACARA curriculum document outlines what the curriculum will include in Years 3 to 10 - VCAA anticipates implementation in Victoria will be from 2015.&lt;/p&gt;

    <title>New VCTA Award Recipients</title>

    <description>&lt;p&gt;Congratulations to all recent award recipients and we thank each for their highly valued contributions to VCTA members over their many years of service.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;h2&gt;&lt;a href=&quot;http://www.vcta.asn.au/theassociation/awards&quot;&gt;The VCTA Medal: John Glasson&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/h2&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The medal is awarded in recognition of recognise outstanding achievement in business education.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;John is recognised for his exceptional achievement in the national context from the 1980s into the new millennium. Over a twenty year period John was, variously, President, Vice President and Treasurer of what is now known as Business Educators Australasia (BEA). He understood that to be taken seriously at the national level all related associations needed to be at the BEA table.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This award also recognises John&amp;rsquo;s role as the President of VCTA in its transformation in the early 1990s where he led decisions to secure the future of our Association by transforming the business model and direction and rebuilding VCTA as a sustainable, secure, benchmark provider of member services.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;VCTA Life membership is awarded for distinguished service to VCTA.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Alastair Davison&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
For over 45 years, Alastair&amp;rsquo;s influence and impact was most demonstrated in developing improved content, and teaching and learning approaches, in the Middle Years of schooling. An outstanding contributor to an array of VCTA member services, many of our recent members know Alastair for his role in IT support at our annual Comview Conferences.&amp;nbsp; Alastair&amp;rsquo;s contribution to VCTA is extraordinary in its depth for what it has done for the development of VCTA and many students and teachers.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Warwick Dean&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
Warwick is recognised for his contribution to VCTA governance and policy development. In addition, his work for VCTA in curriculum development the 1980&amp;#39;s to the early 2000&amp;#39;s, was consistent, considered and innovative. Warwick joined the VCTA Board in 1994 and became a Vice President and member of the VCTA Executive in 1999, a position he held until 2007. He had a &amp;lsquo;big&amp;rsquo; and infectious picture view of the work of the Association and was strongly supportive of VCTA&amp;rsquo;s subsidiary &lt;a href=&quot;http://www.ncsonline.com.au/&quot;&gt;National Curriculum Services&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Keith King&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
For nearly 30 years, Keith was a strong supporter of VCTA initiatives and member services. Keith is known for his tireless work in Accounting and Business as a classroom teacher and mentor. He was a regular presenter at VCTA student lectures and professional learning events and Comview Conferences, a prolific contributor to Compak and for many years the Chief Assessor in Accounting. Keith gave generously of his time for the benefit of business educators and students.&lt;/p&gt;

    <title>2013 CPA Australia PYOE Competition open!</title>

    <description>&lt;p&gt;Bring out the creativity in your students and build their entrepreneurial skills through the CPA Australia Plan Your Own Enterprise Competition. Brochures/entry forms were posted to schools in March 2013.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Entries close Wednesday 28 August 2013.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Teachers are requested to submit all student entries (not just the best ones) as all students receive a certificate for their folios.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;h2&gt;About the Competition&lt;/h2&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The CPA Australia Plan Your Own Enterprise competition encourages secondary school students to apply their business education to a real-life scenario.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Participants are asked to devise a creative enterprise idea and submit a 3000 word business plan, explaining how their great idea could become a profitable business.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;For teachers, the competition is a valuable tool to enhance the business education curriculum. For students, it helps to build valuable work and life skills including:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;organisation and planning&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;innovation&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;decision-making&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;research and communication&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;prioritisation and collaboration&lt;/li&gt;
	&lt;li&gt;reflection and action.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The competition is open to all full-time students enrolled in a registered secondary school in Australia or New Zealand. There are two divisions with fantastic prizes up for grabs.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;h2&gt;The CPA Australia Plan Your Own Enterprise Competition dates and prizes&lt;/h2&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The Victorian Division 1 finalists interviews: Wednesday 11 September 2013 between 2.00 to 4.00pm in Melbourne (venue to be confirmed.)&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The Victorian Division 1 and 2 Award ceremony: Wednesday 11 September 2013 at 5.30 to 6.30pm in Melbourne (venue to be confirmed).&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Victorian state Division 1: winner goes on to the national final on Wednesday 16 October (in Melbourne - location to be confirmed.)&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Prizes&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
Division 1 solo student entry national winner wins $2,500 courtesy of CPA Australia! Plus the school wins prizes.&lt;br /&gt;
Division 2 team student entry national winner wins $1,000 courtesy of CPA Australia! Plus the school wins prizes.&lt;br /&gt;
Victorian state cash prizes are also provided to Victorian Division 1 and 2 finalists.&lt;/p&gt;
