This article provides an overview of an Immigration Museum program called ‘Waves of Migration’, which is suitable for a study of population and employment in VCE Economics Unit 2.
Area of Study 1 of Unit 2 (‘Population, employment and change’) asks students to describe the factors that influence Australia’s population and labour markets and analyse how changes in these areas may impact on living standards. One of the most significant factors affecting Australia’s population and labour markets over time has been immigration. The Immigration Museum provides a rich range of resources for teachers and students who wish to explore the nature, significance, influence and impact of immigration on living standards and the level of economic prosperity in Australia.
