Welcome to Issue 5 of Compak for 2010 VCTA continues to support members through a range of strategies, including of course the support provided through Compak online.
As well, VCTA professional learning opportunities for VCE Economics teachers continue to be provided. Full details are below.

VCTA Professional Learning: Terms 3 2010: Featuring a range of economists
VCTAs professional learning program continues this semester. You can register online; don’t forget to first log in using your own user name and password. All professional learning activities are located on the VCTA website under Professional Learning.
- VCE Unit 4 Exam prep: with David McGregor, Mazenod College and Sharon Suan, RBA economist. Tuesday 27 July, Shelford Girls Grammar in Caulfield; repeated Thursday 29 July at Balwyn HS. Includes an update on monetary policy. Teaching, learning and assessment approaches will also be shared.
- VCE Economics – The latest on the Economy: a full day with a range of economists and others Friday 20 August in the Melbourne CBD. Featuring Prof. John Freebairn (a hit last year!)
- An evening with Ross Gittins: an economic update (after school) on Monday 13 September in Richmond.
- VELS: Learning activities to engage: globalisation, financial literacy and more and you receive a free copy of the newly updated text Money, Markets and Citizenship by VCTA Publishing. 18 August (after school) at St Catherine’s School in Toorak.

The program includes a number of sessions that focus on enhancing our content knowledge about current issues in the economy including:
- the regular Australian economic update provided by Dr Chris Caton, BT Financial Group
- a focus on taxation reform and the new Minerals Resource Rent Tax
- how Australia’s economic relationship with Asia is influencing the Australian economy.
There will also be a number of sessions focusing on sharing teaching, learning and assessment strategies based on the revised study in 2010, including approaches to integrating ICT.
And this year, VELS is back with sessions focusing on classroom ideas for Years 7 to 10 including ideas for VELS Economics. See you there!
