Welcome to the new school year and to the first online issue of Compak Accounting. Compak has the same great quality to which you are accustomed and we are delighted to provide the added benefits an online environment brings to the format, structure and delivery of VCTA’s much valued publication.

We wish to thank Kerry and Roger Canty for doing a magnificent job of co-editing the Compak Accounting section for the past eight years. Kerry and Roger have retired as Compak Accounting editors but you will continue to see some valuable contributions from them in future editions. Their dedication to supporting Accounting teachers has been phenomenal and we are delighted that they are continuing their ongoing association with VCTA in other ways during 2010.

This year Compak has eight issues with the next issues due (subject to change):

• 12 July
• 9 August
• 30 August
• 4 October.

We would like to remind members that we are always looking for contributions!

Included in this edition are suggested course outlines and teaching timelines for Units 1 and 3 as well as classroom activities for both units. Please note:

• for the Accounting Jeopardy activity for Unit 1 you need to download a Word document and a PowerPoint file
• and for Albert’s Games World, an ICT-based activity for Unit 3, there are two Excel files to download; a student task file and a solutions file.

Registrations are open for the first round of professional learning programs which kick off on Saturday 20 February for teachers new to Accounting. This is followed by an exam review by Neville Box on Thursday 25 February and repeated Tuesday 2 March (evenings). At this event you will also hear from an accountant who will relate his experience of business reporting and evaluating as it applies in the  real world.

And keep an eye out for the Accounting Unit 3 student lectures on Saturday 15 May; registrations open soon.
